Joyce Dykema, MS, CD(DONA), HCHD

Joyce Dykema, MS, CD(DONA), HCHD, (she/her) is a birth doula who lives in Lincoln, NE with her husband and three children. Joyce holds a Master’s in Biological Sciences from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is certified as a birth doula (DONA International and Hypnobabies), an Evidence Based BirthⓇ Instructor, a childbirth educator, a community breastfeeding educator, and has been serving birthing families since 2009. Joyce has presented for multiple local and regional conferences and in educational settings, and been featured in local newspaper and television reports for her work as a birth doula.

Joyce is passionate about bringing balanced and accurate information to all birthing people while honoring the wisdom and importance of diverse cultural knowledge and traditions, and working towards equitable reproductive care. In addition to her private clients, Joyce partners with Malone Maternal Wellness, an African American cultural community program dedicated to combating the inequities and disparities in Black infant and maternal health while providing safe and culturally competent care from BIPOC birth doulas, postpartum doulas, childbirth educators, and breastfeeding educators. Joyce is a partner birth doula and childbirth educator, and is the Malone Maternal Wellness Doula Mentor, providing monthly community discussions of relevant topics and 1:1 mentorship focused on individual doula goal setting, progress, and fulfillment.

Joyce previously served as the DONA Ambassador of the state of Nebraska from 2016 to 2020, with the International Cesarean Awareness Network as the ICAN of Lincoln chapter co-leader from 2014-2018, and helped found Doulas of Lincoln, also serving on the administrator team from 2016-2023.
